In total, 21 species of water birds have been recorded in Galapagos, 10 of which are endemic to the Islands. The water birds can be conveniently divided into five groups, as show in the table below.

In total, 34 species of shore birds have been recorded in Galapagos, only 2 of which are endemic. The shore birds can be conveniently divided into 4 groups as shown in the table below. This shows the number of species recorded in each group.
